Job description
Summary/Purpose:
Performs repairs and maintenance on heavy duty diesel trucks, as well as other vehicles to maximize safe and productive operations. Typical repairs include but are not limited to routine maintenance and repairing engines, chassis, and body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, wheels, and tires.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Reads and interprets work orders, communicates with supervisor and/or driver for clarification of problems. May discuss preventative techniques with drivers to minimize future repairs.
- Occasionally makes emergency road calls to make repairs on trucks that break down.
- Uses a large array of hand and power tools.
- Uses impact wrenches weighing from 15-50 pounds.
- May carry parts and tools distances up to 50 yards.
- Cleans parts and tools with chemical solvents.
- Completes repair orders to document repairs.
- Drives vehicle to troubleshoot problems or assess effectiveness of repairs. Adjusts as necessary.
- Inspects visually and/or listens for problems. Feels for unusual vibration or suspension and/or tire problems.
- Drives service vehicle to location where Swanson Bark and Wood Products truck needs service. Performs repairs as described duties above.
Skill/Attributes Required:
- Must be knowledgeable of and capable of performing repairs in an efficient, effective, and timely manner.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working on Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks.
- Strong experience in diagnostics and electrical is a must.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, read, estimate, calculate, interpret, measure, and document in writing.
- Must have own set of basic tools as is standard for mechanics.
- Must currently have a valid driver’s license with excellent driving record.
- Able to sustain a steady work pace over an entire workday.
Working Conditions:
- Works indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Subjected to loud noises, vibrations, hardworking surfaces, lubricants, and chemicals, fumes, dirt, and inherent hazards of mechanic work.
Pay: $27-31/hr, to be determined
