**Webster residency strongly preferred**

The Town of Webster is seeking candidates for part-time Dog Control Officers for day, evening and weekend on-call/call-in shifts to assist with the control and protection of the dog population and the protection of persons, property and domestic animals from dog attack and damage. Webster residency strongly preferred because, as an on-call position, employees must be able to report to the Webster Town Hall within 10 minutes of a call out.

Typical Duties:

• Acknowledges dog complaints and investigates and takes appropriate action in compliance with state and local rules, regulations and ordinances
• Captures, restrains and transports dogs to impounding/holding area or owners
• Records dog bites, and submits copies to County and/or State Health Department
• Testifies in court regarding dog control violations

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience and knowledge in handling and controlling animals humanely and effectively under stressful or emergency circumstance
• Experience and knowledge assessing animal behavior and making effective decisions regarding dangerous animals
• Ability to successfully interact with law enforcement and members of the public in situations where relations may be confrontational or strained
• New York State Nuisance Wildlife Control License

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.
• Must be available for assigned shift, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
• Must be able to respond to scene within 20 minutes.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to sit, stand, maintain physical activity for extended periods of time in a variety of environments, indoors and outside, including during inclement weather.

• Applicants will be subject to a pre-employment background check and drug testing.

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Education:

• High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

• Animal handling: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• NYS Nuisance Wildlife Control License (Preferred)
