Physical Requirements
The essential functions for include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds on a daily basis; as well as stand, walk and sit for long periods of time. The conditions of work may involve exposure to communicable diseases, the hazards of radiation, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
Shift
May include day, evenings, night, and/or swing; will also be required to work some weekend and holidays.
Job Summary
The EMI Coordinator provides technical support and clinical leadership for the assigned service lines by ensuring all equipment, materials and instruments are operable and available the day of surgery; prepares the room for the case; trains providers in the proper setup and use of the equipment, materials and instrumentation; works collaboratively with the Central Sterile Processing Department and communicates with all outside vendors for the assigned specialty area; and maintains active communication among interdepartmental staff, Physicians and service line team members. The EMI Coordinator shall be a proficient Surgical Technologist in their specialty area and shall function in the scrub role to facilitate flow of surgical cases when needed.
This position has been identified as supporting UK HealthCare, which receives funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Therefore, all individuals hired into this position must comply with the federal CMS mandate issued in March of 2022. This mandate requires all new hires to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption as a condition of employment. Start of employment cannot occur until two weeks after receiving the full COVID-19 vaccination series or upon obtaining an approved exemption. Only vaccines approved by the World Health Organization can be accepted.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of surgical products, instruments, & equipment; strong communication including verbal, written, and presentation skills; ability to identify and resolve problems; work as a team member; prioritize effectively; and possess excellent organizational skills.

Preferred Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years’ experience in patient care, surgical technician, operating room assistant, and/or surgical related education roles.
