Job description
The Barrow County Environmental Health Office is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist. Primary responsibilities will be to provide oversight and management of the Environmental Health program in Clarke and Jackson County to include inspection/permitting/consultation for the Food Service Program, On-Site Sewage Program, Individual Well Water Program, Tourist Accommodation Program, Public Swimming Pool Program, and Rabies Control to ensure compliance of state rules and regulations. Investigate all assigned health-related complaints received and perform all environmental health office duties such as filing, letter writing, data entry, etc. Use of personal vehicle at State reimbursement rate will be required.
Job summary: Under supervision, assists in performing inspections, interviews, and technical reviews for an environmental health program in a public health department. Assists in investigating complaints and recommending enforcement action as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semesters hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.).
Copy of Official College Transcript must be submitted with application.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which included the completion of 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) AND One year of experience at the lower level PH Environmental Health Specialist I or position equivalent AND Attendance and completion of the Georgia Environmental Health Training class.
Annual salary $45,600 plus, generous benefits include 13 paid holidays, annual and sick leave, health insurance, and retirement plans.
This position is in Winder, GA, and does not offer relocation assistance. Must be within a reasonable commuting distance. If relocating to Winder, GA, please specify on the application.
