Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Background knowledge and training in Title IX and related guidance
  • Working knowledge of the Clery Act, VAWA, FERPA, and relevant North Carolina statutes
  • Ability to work on complex and confidential issues utilizing judgment, tact, and resourcefulness
  • Experience in providing workshops to a variety of populations

License/Certification Required

Preferred Qualifications
  • Title IX investigator training/certification
  • Experience in training development and delivery
  • Experience in conducting equitable, confidential inquiries and investigations in discrimination and Title IX cases


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Equal Opportunity Associate works closely with the relevant University, state, and federal policies and mandates regarding Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization, Title VII , the Age Discrimination Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy, Campus Crime Statistics Act, etc.

The Equal Opportunity Associate will have the following responsibilities related to investigations:
  • Process, investigate, and mediate complaints of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation from students, faculty, and staff.
  • Operationalize all relevant University, state, and federal policies and mandates regarding the investigation of discrimination and unlawful harassment.
  • Provide equitable and fair treatment to all parties interviewed and accessed in relation to any investigation.
  • Conduct unbiased and trauma-informed interviews with all parties in relation to any investigation.
  • Author comprehensive investigative reports illuminating all relevant details to a complaint including, but not limited to, interview summaries and material evidence review.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files, including, but not limited to, a timeline of the investigative process and communication with all relevant parties associated with an investigation.
  • Maintain a high level of privacy and confidentiality during all proceedings with the utmost discretion and sensitivity to all parties accessed and associated with an investigation.
  • Assist in the complaint process by being available to confer with members of the campus community regarding policy, procedures, and protections under University policy.


The Equal Opportunity Associate will also have the following responsibilities in association with their role:
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive University policies, procedures, and practices in association with University Policy, civil rights laws, including, Title VII, Title IX, ADA, Section 504, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with important campus stakeholders, including, but not limited to, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Human Resources, regarding the maintenance of a safe, inclusive campus community.
  • Assist in efforts to prevent and respond to sexual and relationship violence, including, but not limited to, client intake and follow-up, and participation in campus and community committees.
  • Assist in training and educational efforts of University students, employees, and community members regarding equal opportunity laws and compliance issues. Assist in maintaining accurate training records and public dissemination.
  • Participate in active and ongoing training and professional development.
  • Facilitates the interactive process for employees seeking disability, religious, and pregnancy-related accommodations. Promotes and assists in providing access to ensure inclusive environments for University events.
