We are seeking Facade Access & Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) Engineers/Consultants to join our multi-disciplinary teams. This role could be located in any of our regional offices, though much of the project work will focus on major city centers. This individual will be responsible for the detailing of facades, access and maintenance/ BMU systems, running related analyses, materials and systems research, and coordinating project work with the team. Must be collaborative, creative, diligent and professional with attentiveness to client communication. You will use your talent and experience to dovetail façade engineering into multidisciplinary design projects while learning and continuing to develop your career. Your work will span across a variety of projects, from historic landmarked buildings to high-performing new developments and one-off special structures. Our project portfolio includes arts and culture, educational facilities, healthcare, transportation/aviation, and commercial projects. Recent projects include Columbia Business School, Bloomberg Center on Roosevelt Island (net-zero), Solar Carve, Capital One Performing Arts Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Harvard Art Museum, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Northeastern University ISEC.
Responsibilities:
Develop façade access and maintenance concepts/ideas – sketching, reports, sketchbooks for discussion with Architects and clients;
Produce details and drawings using various 2D and 3D CAD and graphics packages;
Produce drawings, specifications and technical reports for bid
Perform technical reviews of bids, shop drawings and construction administration submittals to ensure air, water, thermal, seismic, acoustic and structural performance and adequacy of and coordination with all access and maintenance systems;
Witnessing performance mockup testing of façade and BMU / access systems;
Carrying out factory visits, site inspections and preparing associated technical reports;
Undertake façade design and related structural and thermal calculations with various materials, including glass, aluminum, stainless steel, wood, stone and precast concrete;
Coordinating work with other building professionals; and with Arup’s Façade access and maintenance members globally;
Lead and manage projects, including preparation of proposals and delivery of quality work;
Communicating with clients to establish their needs, and maintaining a dialogue throughout the project;
Ability to present capabilities to clients, develop and maintain key client relationships;
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or Architectural/Structural/Mechanical Engineering;
A minimum 6 years of experience in the façade consulting, facade maintenance and access/ BMU industry with emphasis on specific BMU experience;
Technical and design skills to communicate thoughts and ideas related to building envelope design and detailing as related to access and maintenance systems;
Experience with a variety of systems and materials;
Understanding of key façade access system criteria
Familiarity with building codes; USA, Canada and other regions
Experience with structural and thermal analysis packages;
Excellent communications skills (both written and verbal);
Ability to balance priorities on differing projects;
Ability to develop and maintain successful client relationships;
Planning and organizational skills
NYC hiring range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in New York City is $98,400 – $133,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of NYC will differ.
