Job Description


The Family Educator will provideresources, support, and education to families served in the Skyland Trail Adult and Adolescent Residential and Day Treatment programs. These services may also extend bevond a family member's discharge from all otherservices (as appropriate). This position will be supervised by the Director ofEducation.
The Family Educator will be responsible for:


.1 Identifying needs
2. Identifyingr esources to address needs
3. Coordinating information and activities across services provided .

4 Providing ongoing education and training on mental health topics

5. Educating on family dynamics

Family Educator will be tasked with the review and expansion of current family services, including but not limited to, the following:

  • Family Orientation (held monthly or bimonthly)
  • Family STEP Meeting (Support, Training, and Education Program)
  • Family Education Nights
  • Curriculum development
  • Community partnerships (NAMI, NEABPD, PFLAG, DBHDD, JF&CS, DBSA, etc.)
  • In addition to working with established services, the Family Educator will also identify other services or opportunities to support families. Family Educator will be part of developing and facilitating the following new family programs:


New Familv Education Group
Family Weekends
Psychoeducational groups for families
Educational content (videos, blogs, etc.) on frequently discussed topics General duties include:

Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary clinical treatment team.
Coordinate with other staff providing family services.
Facilitate communication between families and various parts of the Skyland Trail system.
Survey families throughout the year for continual improvements.
Education Director to schedule speakers for educational events.

Develop curriculum for educational events in conjunction with clinical team.

Assist in the development of additional topics/subjects at educational events.

Ongoing communication with STEP educator/partner database
Assist families in identifying effective methods of supporting the client currently participating in treatment.
Revise and maintain educational resources (videos, Family Portal, reading materials, couples and family therapists, family programs, videos, web sites, etc.).
Provide additional services, as needed.

Competencies:This position should have sufficient skill or ability in the following areas:

1. Addressingculturalfactorsineducationalpresentations
2. Connecting to/Aligning with different cultural communities to address issues of mental health education and treatment
3. Ability to develop cohesive educational presentations and present to audiences clearly and effectively
4. Openness to change; forward thinking, flexibility


Minimum Qualifications:
1. Minimum of a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling
2. Prior experience in presenting to a variety of groups Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling
  • Must have current, active licensure in the state of Georgia or be license eligible
  • Prior experience in providing therapy services in a setting for the treatment of the chronically mentally ill
  • Experience with providing family therapy
  • Prior experience in conducting family therapy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
