The Denver Public Library (DPL) is a growing urban library system that serves the City & County of Denver. DPL sees more than 4 million visitors every year across its 27 locations, serves Denver’s most vulnerable communities through outreach and mobile services, hosts thousands of programs a year and manages a collection of more than 1.4 million physical and digital materials.

ABOUT OUR TEAM
Collection Services consists of three departments: the Collection Development Office, Technical Services, and Interlibrary Loan. We are responsible for the selection, cataloging, receiving, and processing of the library’s physical and digital collections. The Denver Public Library collection serves the general educational interest, recreational and entertainment needs of the public, and reflects the racial, ethnic and cultural diversity of the community. We expand our reach through Interlibrary Loan services by providing access to materials from libraries across the world.
Our team office is located at the Central Library in downtown Denver.
ABOUT THE JOB
The Administrative Support Assistant III is a new position which will work across all three departments to assist in the daily operations of acquisitions, processing, cataloging and interlibrary loan. The position will report directly to the Manager of Collection Services and will work closely with the supervisors of each team. Assignments will be based on the staffing needs and priorities in each department, but the majority of work will reside with processing and cataloging in Technical Services.
Specifically, this team member will be responsible for:
Technical Services - Processing and Receiving:

Physically process new material, including books, media, etc. Add labels, repackage, apply RFID tags, property stamp, plast-kleer and other physical processing as required.

Verify item record information and spine labels for quality control

Add item records to the ILS, applying accurate data points for the material in hand

Provide back-up for receiving staff in their absence.
Technical Services - Copy Cataloging and Project Work

Catalog books and audiovisual items by identifying and editing matching bibliographic records

Perform catalog maintenance and assist with special projects as assigned
Interlibrary Loan

Utilize ILLiad, the ILS, and OCLC WorldCat to locate potential suppliers of books and periodicals

Locate materials and process requests for lending to other libraries, and receive and process borrowing requests for circulation

Provide back-up for other Interlibrary Loan staff in their absence.
Collection Development - Acquisitions

Create purchase orders using knowledge of the processing requirements of library materials to select the appropriate vendor account and item data

Assist with day-to-day projects and/or troubleshooting of acquisitions-related issues.

Provide back-up for other acquisitions staff in their absence
-
Manage museum pass software and update information on the DPL website

Are you agile in a fast-paced production environment and effective at juggling multiple projects and priorities simultaneously? Are you detail oriented and skilled in utilizing computer software to accomplish a variety of tasks? Are you passionate about library collections and access?
If so - you might be the right person to step into this new role Collection Services! We are looking for a team member who has:

Skilled in using workplace technology effectively including MS Word, MS Excel and Google products including email and calendar.

Experience using Integrated Library System software (preferred).

Ability to balance quality and quantity of work effectively and to thrive in a production environment.

Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity and sense of humor in working with coworkers and community.

Ability to demonstrate initiative, innovation and flexibility, including proposing process improvements.

Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.

Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of clerical experience

Level of Physical Demand: 2-Light (10-20 lbs.) to 4-Heavy (50-100 lbs.)
