Job description
The purpose of this classification is to provide care and maintenance of landscaped grounds at Consolidated Government facilities within the guidelines of safety regulations and supervisory instructions. Works with co-workers and the public to provide ground maintenance services.
- Prepares area of work by removing debris and loose objects prior to beginning. Uses a variety of lawn cutting equipment and machinery: mows, edges, and trims grass; aerates lawns; cleans lawn areas using blower, pitch fork, broom, or water pressure; and replaces damaged sod as required. Properly disposes of or collects, for disposal off-site, yard waste and other refuse collected prior to leaving site.
- Operates power or motorized equipment such as light trucks, all terrain vehicles, portable generators, wood chippers, lawn mowers, edgers, weed eaters, and/or blowers; provides routine maintenance of equipment; transports required equipment and supplies to work sites; and reports maintenance issues with equipment when detected.
- Prunes trees using pole saw or chainsaw: trims shrubbery using gas or electric trimmers, manual trimmers, loppers, or clippers; and bundles and disposes of resulting refuse appropriately.
- Evaluates work orders and other forms of task assignment: determines equipment and supplies needed; executes required work; and completes applicable portions of the work order and other logs when work is completed.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Position Specific responsibilities
In the case of inclement weather or if needed, assists with manual labor or general facility related maintenance tasks to include carpentry, painting, and plumbing.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Equipment safety precautions and procedures
- Light equipment maintenance and operations
- Landscaping methods and procedures
- Traffic safety and control procedures
- Performing preventative maintenance on landscape equipment to include irrigation systems
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
- Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment. *This position requires driving a county vehicle*
- A valid Georgia OR South Carolina Commercial Driver's License, including appropriate endorsements, is preferred.

- Physical Abilities: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
- Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
- Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, heights, confined spaces, machinery, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, or animal/human bites.
This position requires more than 50% travel from office to other locations.
