Position Summary
This is work performing landscape maintenance duties including but not restricted to mowing, edging, weed eating, tree trimming, plant bed maintenance, irrigation maintenance, landscape pest control and landscape renovation
To propagate plants, record data, arrange plant displays, prepare and apply pesticides, prepare classroom materials, and supervise student assistants. To perform work of a skilled nature to maintain grounds around state buildings and institutions.

Health New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking motivated individuals for the position of Horticultural Attendant. There are two vacancies.
Starting rate of pay is $14.37 per hour, may be negotiable based on applicants’ qualifications.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Parking garage, parking lot, sidewalk and curb maintenance
- Cleaning elevators and stairwells
- Cleaning elevated walkways
- Landscape maintenance

OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
Knowledge of landscape maintenance techniques.
Knowledge of the procedures and methods used in proper tree maintenance.
Knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of complete landscape irrigation systems.
Knowledge of all methods, procedures, precautions, laws, and rights applicable to the safe handling, mixing, applying, storage, disposal, and documentation of use of pesticides.
Possess a valid State of Louisiana Class C driver license.
Skill in safely and effectively operating riding mowers.
Skill in using supplemental landscape maintenance equipment such as power edger’s, blowers, power hedge trimmers, and the like.
Skill in the installation, maintenance, and repair of complete landscape irrigation systems.
Skill in handling, mixing, applying, storage, disposal, and documentation of use of pesticides.
Ability to use hand tools such as rakes, shovels, lopping shears, pole saws, and the like during landscape construction, modification, and maintenance.
Ability to use power and non-power hand tools and equipment properly.
Ability to lift and carry loads of 50 pounds or more (bags of fertilizer, bags of grass seed, bags of asphalt patch, sod, and the like); to push or pull small equipment such as walk-behind edger’s, mowers, and blowers.
Ability to walk long distances on level and unleveled terrain while using equipment.
Ability to get on and off riding mowers, tractors, sweepers, riding scrubbers and other similar equipment quickly and with ease in cases of emergency.
Ability to understand LSUHSC rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to communicate information effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and within extreme temperature ranges.
Visual ability, corrected, to observe people and/or vehicles moving through the work area in order to redirect work or equipment to avoid injuries to the people or damage to the vehicles.

College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience provided that six semester hours of each thirty is in any of the following fields: botany, agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, agronomy, forestry, turf management, landscape management or landscape architecture. Vocational training in the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis.
