John Crane is seeking a resourceful, HR Generalist to join our collaborative Human Resources team. The right individual is an organized, self-starter, who can multi-task in a fast-paced work environment. This person will be a trusted resource and will report directly to the HR Manager of the North & East. The HR Generalist is responsible for providing HR support to the Senior HR Generalists and HR Manager across the United States in GeoMarkets and Operations. The HR Generalist will provide guidance to both employees and managers related to HR policies, practices and supporting our culture and Smiths values.
Duties & Responsibilities
Duties may also include assisting in employment and labor relations issues and provide day-to-day support addressing HR related queries. Conduct local training or coaching sessions to employees and/or managers to help support HR initiatives related to employment policies, employee engagement, health and wellness benefits, rewards and recognition programs, performance management, and career development. Provide functional support addressing recruitment, new employee onboarding/orientations, employee file management, promotions/changes in salary, transfers/relocations, resignation/termination exit interviews, and other duties as assigned.
The Individual
- Associate/Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Preferred, or recognized qualification/certification in Human Resources.
- 1-2 years of prior HR Generalist or HR Representative experience with multi-site experience preferred.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of country/state/local employment legislation and labor relations compliance issues along with HR policies and procedures.
- Fluency in English required. Fluency in other relevant regional languages preferred.
- Able to effectively communicate and coach employees and managers on HR policies and practices while being approachable and trustworthy in nature.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple activities, as required by the HR calendar, while maintaining day-to-day service quality supporting both employees and managers.
- Responsive to employee and manager queries regarding HR matters and dedicated to providing thoughtful and timely guidance and/or solutions.
- Ability to professionally manage employee and company data with the highest degree of discretion and/or confidentiality as appropriate.
- Knowledgeable and efficient in the use of HR systems.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office, warehouse, shop floor, or manufacturing plant.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.
- Ability to simultaneously manage several objectives, and reassign priorities.
- Must be able to tolerate changing priorities, and complete assignments despite frequent interruptions.
- Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment, PC
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment is typically considered in an office environment located on-site, within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours. Work environment may also include meeting venues, or other locations as required. Work may expose individual to typical risks found in manufacturing, warehousing and administration areas of the business. The noise level in the manufacturing work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor.
