Based in Waterloo, WI this bilingual (English/Spanish) role helps us plan and administer important HR functions. At Van Holten’s we understand that our business thrives when our personnel thrives and we are looking for a people person to coordinate these efforts.
JOB SUMMARY: This role is responsible for the company’s daily Human Resource functions including employee recruiting, benefit administration, union payroll, and helping develop company HR policies and practices. Working closely with our operations team and company leadership, this position is essential to providing an excellent employee experience and promoting a positive workplace culture.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand union employee staffing needs and conduct recruiting, interviewing, and hiring
- Create and manage internal and external job postings
- Process new employee paperwork and create security access badges
- Conduct new employee orientation and training
- Review and finalize union employee timesheets and process union payroll biweekly
- Coordinate production staffing with production supervisors and input scheduling into HR software
- Develop and maintain an impactful new hire onboarding process
- Follow up with union employees regarding attendance issues
- Develop and maintain a departing employee offboarding process
- Administer and monitor workers compensation claims including OSHA reporting
- Attend quarterly safety meetings as a member of the Safety Committee
- Maintain union employee records including seniority list, training certifications and disciplinary
- Develop and maintain non-union employee review process
- Maintain and update union employee roster and cross-training matrix
- Maintain and update company organizational chart and job descriptions
- Answer employee requests and questions on employment and benefits-related issues
- Assist Controller with benefit plan administration and annual benefits open enrollment
- Process FMLA paperwork and track FMLA usage
- Perform written and verbal Spanish translation
- Maintain and update employee handbooks including identifying improvements to be made
- Assist in maintaining compliance with employment and benefits laws and regulations
- Collect and analyze human resources data and make recommendations for changes to management
- Identify and implement various employee engagement and wellness programs to improve the employee experience
- Facilitate communications with employees including via company TV slides and other methods
- Keep up to date with the latest HR trends and best practices
- Other duties or projects as assigned by supervisor, including tasks as needed to keep Human Resources functions running smoothly
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

- Skilled with verbal and written communication
- Ability to keep sensitive information confidential
- 2 or more years of related experience
- Experienced in Human Resources administration
- Familiarity with applicable laws, rules and regulations around payroll and human resources practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proactive problem solver
- High integrity and ethical standards
- Highly computer literate and experienced with Outlook and MS Office Suite
WORK SCHEDULE, CONDITIONS , & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Standard Schedule: Monday through Thursday 8AM – 5PM, Friday 8AM – 4:30PM - ½ hour lunch
- One day per week is 9AM – 6PM for interaction with 2nd shift employees
- Work will primarily be performed in a typical office environment
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
