Position Summary
The part-time position (0.20 – 0.25 full time equivalent (FTE)) for an Internal Medicine physician to serve as Internal Medicine Residency Faculty will contribute to the development and evaluation of the internal medicine residency training program at Laredo Medical Center in Laredo, TX. The part-time faculty assists with reviewing resident candidate applications, participating in recruiting and interviewing resident candidates, and providing clinical instruction for and supervising the internal medicine residents.
The position will work closely with the Office of Graduate Medical Education and affiliated clinical sites to develop and support the new internal medicine residency program and will work with the Program Director, Associate Program Director, and the Office of Graduate Medical Education to direct the development of curriculum and rotations and ensure compliance with accrediting bodies. The Internal Medicine Residency Faculty will assist the Program Director in fulfilling the requirements of accreditation through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you, as the employee, to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about Title IX violations. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions
- Provide the provision of specialty specific, level-appropriate education of residents in the residency program, ensuring that such education adequately prepares residents (in conjunction with their own studying), for the internal medicine board certification exams as well as for active clinical practice as manifest by passing rates at or near 100%.
- Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, matching, and onboarding of residents for the residency program.
- Ensure the quality of care provided by residents in the program is of the highest caliber, and that lapses in quality are appropriately investigated, resolved, and used to improve processes and education.
- Participate in faculty development programs, curricular support, direct education, scholarly activity, and community engagement with physicians and hospital administrators..
- Assist with the coordination and supervision of UIWSOM medical students at the clinical institution working with the residents.
- Provide didactic instruction for residents as assigned.
- Participate in the Residency Advisory Committee, Clinical Competency Committee, and Program Evaluation Committee and other committees as assigned.
- Supervise residents in the clinical setting.
- Mentor residents during the course of their training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education
MD or DO degree.
Required Work Experience
Active clinical practice in internal medicine or a sub-specialty of internal medicine.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on faculty of residency program.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Current American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certification in Internal Medicine or Sub-specialty with participation in the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.
OR
Current American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM) certification in Internal Medicine and/or Sub-specialty with Osteopathic Continuous Certification.
OR
Current American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM) certification in Internal Medicine and/or Sub-specialty with Osteopathic Continuous Certification.
