Job Summary/Purpose:
To be the first point of contact at the Barber Library Circulation desk and provide critical support to the functions of Circulation (Reserves, training support, event support, cleaning, shelving, etc.). Ensures that Circulation is ready for opening or closing following appropriate procedures. Provide support when needed with Interlibrary Loan & Art Exhibits/Shows held in the Library Rotunda gallery space.

- This is a part-time (<.50 FTE) Temporary Hourly/Non-Benefited position
- Requires flexible work schedule, which may include evenings and/or weekends as well as travel throughout the district when needed.
- COCC employees must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.
- The College is NOT able to support Visa applications for this position. Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States to be considered for this position.
- Upon hire, must pass criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered.
- Effective Monday, April 18, 2022, COCC implemented a COVID-19 vaccination requirement for all employees, including benefited employees, part-time faculty, and temporary workers such as irregular wage, work study and community education. Essential Functions:
- Provide cordial, professional service to all library patrons.
- When needed, ensures that Circulation is ready for opening or closing following appropriate procedures. Communicates with the Head of Access Services and/or Public Services Support staff on service needs or other patron issues.
- Ensure that department tasks are handled in a timely, efficient and accurate manner.
- Utilize complex library software applications to check out, check in, renew circulating library materials, and update patrons’ account status.
- Assist with training of new student workers.
- Provide support with shelving of library items and shelf reading, as needed.
- Assist patrons in person or by phone with Course Reserve requests, item hold requests, general circulation, and library policy. Provide pertinent directional information, referring patrons to appropriate departments and library personnel as applicable.
- Handle troubleshooting, including reporting issues to supervisor or through other appropriate channels (e.g., Campus Public Safety) in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of patron records, both personal and library use information.
- Take direction from Library Specialist, Public Services/Library staff, or librarians in the absence of the Head of Access Services.
- Provide daily support with incoming and outgoing Resource Sharing items using specialized software (ALMA, ILLiad, Rapid ILL). Process local and Summit holds.
- Provide timely support for courier or other Resource Sharing mail services.
- Assist with the planning, installation & takedown of all Library Art Exhibits
- Special tasks and other projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.
- Must be highly reliable and punctual.
- Considerable computer and keyboarding ability; adept with software applications/databases, Internet usage.
- Excellent customer service skills required.
- Accepts supervision and direction of supervisors.
- Team player and good communicator.
- Perform all duties with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and strong attention to detail.
- Reliable, punctual self-starter, who performs responsibly without direct supervision.
- Ability to work independently; follow complex instructions; adapt to frequent changes in processing procedures; able to train new workers.
- Flexibility, willingness to work at varying paces, and ability to multi-task essential.
- Familiarity with library services helpful.
- Familiarity with art gallery procedures (i.e. installations, take-downs, hanging systems, etc.) helpful
- Ability to develop strong knowledge of the Library of Congress call number system
Physical Demands and Other Ergonomic Requirements:
Up to 19 hours and not to exceed 20 hours per week. Shifts to vary; Mon-Fri during regular terms, but a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities. Summer & interim periods TBD.
Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. Must be able to stand for at least an hour. Must be able to bend. Must have physical flexibility and stamina. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or higher
- Successful criminal history check
