Maintenance/Custodial Worker

Burr and Burton Academy is an independent school that serves the public. Founded in 1829, we serve as the public high school for thirteen towns in southern Vermont, accept all students from those towns, and commit to providing an outstanding educational opportunity to each and every student.

Campus Overview
Burr and Burton Academy' s enrollment is currently 770 students with recent trends indicating continued growth. The main campus in Manchester is 50 acres, with buildings ranging from the original Seminary Building constructed in 1832 to Founders Hall, a 25,000 square-foot new facility that opened in 2021. Other key buildings include the Smith Center (29,000 sq. ft.; 1998); The Rowland Center (22,000 sq. ft.; 2004); the EH Henry Gymnasium and Fitness Center (26,000 sq. ft.); and the Riley Center for the Arts (14,000 sq. ft.). The school also owns five residential homes that serve as international houses, and several other smaller buildings serving a variety of functions.

Along with the main campus facilities, the school owns and maintains a building on Richville Road to house the Target Program, an alternative education program, and a 100-acre property in Peru, Vermont with a 3,500 square-foot LEED Platinum certified building that houses our Mountain Campus program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

• Responsible for cleaning, vacuuming, and maintaining the facility which he/she is assigned.
• Collect and dispose of trash in assigned area, Clean classrooms, bathrooms and all areas of facility to which he/she is assigned.
• Make sure all dispensers (soap, paper towel, toilet paper, etc.) are full and functioning.
• Lock all doors and windows and turn off lights at the end of each day.
• Set up classrooms and other facilities for various events or activities.
• Maintain exterior of buildings and grounds so they are presentable.
• Report all damages or wear to school facilities daily to the Director of Facilities.
• Make any repairs as necessary and within capabilities.
• Grounds work to include lawn and turf repair, mowing and trimming as well as raking
• Perform plowing, shoveling and salting in the event of inclement weather.
• Always perform duties in a safe manner.
• Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
• Ability to lift 70 pounds.
• Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel and coworkers.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

High school diploma and one (1) year of experience preferred

Candidates must complete a national criminal record check

Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
