We’re currently seeking a talented and experienced Manager, Instructional Design. The manager will lead the growth and development of our externally facing Instructional Design Department and be responsible for the oversight of 5 internal direct reports and multiple external vendors/contractors. With demonstrated experience working in a consulting capacity, leading teams, championing learning, and working within a start-up, fast-paced environment the Manager, Instructional Design will act as the in-house subject matter expert and thought leader, the project manager accountable for the successful launch and completion of all client-facing Instructional Design projects & initiatives, and the chief inspiration officer for all things eLearning at Over J. In addition, the Manager, Instructional Design may function as a project-level instructional designer on various projects to meet business goals, objectives, and deliverables, as needed.

The Manager, Instructional Design will join the Over J Management Council, report directly to the CEO and work closely with Instructional Design Team to advance company goals, scale the eLearning function, and position Over J as an innovative, best-in-class service provider for eLearning. The Manager, Instructional Design is a full-time, 100% on-site position housed in the downtown Los Angeles Over J headquarters office. The position is open until filled, but we are hoping to have our new Manager, Instructional Design in the saddle by: October 1st, 2022!

Learn:
  • The culture of Over J

Own:
  • The development of a department growth roadmap to meet current and future business needs/demands
  • The management of the Instructional Design team members, including full employee life cycle (recruit, hire, inspire, coach, mentor, progressive discipline, and separation/termination, as needed)
  • Oversight and project management of the Instructional Design portfolio of projects
  • Remain abreast of current industry trends & standards, learning theories, and technologies related to Adult Learning, Instructional Design, and eLearning to ensure delivery of cutting-edge initiatives, solutions, and programs to meet client needs

Improve:
  • The Instructional Design department efficiencies, tools, processes so we can scale to meet customer needs
  • Cohesion and collaboration by building a “dream team” that leverages each team member’s superpowers and strengths
  • The speed and effectiveness of Instructional Design RFI/RFP proposals

Teach:
  • Best practices in the field, and ways we might improve our team and tools to become the best-in-class eLearning provider we want to be
  • Function as the chief inspiration officer for all things eLearning at Over J acting as a resource and subject matter expert both internally and externally

Within 1 Month, You’ll:
  • Get to know the Instructional Design Team, the current clients, and workload
  • Host 1:1s with staff
  • Attend introductory meetings with clients
  • Get to know Over J
  • Shadow team members from various departments and functions to better understand the day-to-day business
  • Attend 1:1 with CEO to better understand current business goals, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
  • Attend 1:1s with management council team members to better understand each of the business functions, their roles, and glean insights about successfully integrating with the team
  • Get to know current processes and procedures on the Instructional Design Team
  • Evaluate department efficiencies, current pipeline of projects, identify strengths and gaps in processes and procedures

Within 3 Months, You’ll:
  • Develop strong working relationships across Over J
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients, understanding their cultures as well as gaps in their processes and procedures that may lead to business opportunities for Over J
  • Draft a strategic growth roadmap for the Instructional Design Department including a forced ranked list of opportunities on the horizon, resources needed to actualize opportunities, strategies & timelines to accomplish goals
  • Share roadmap and recommendations with CEO and management council to finalize

Within 6 Months, You’ll:
  • Begin executing on strategic goals for the Instructional Design Department
  • Align work with the superpowers on the team
  • Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, & mentoring efforts within the Instructional Design function (as needed)
  • Center the needs of current clients and begin expanding the reach of the Instructional Design function beyond what existed when you first joined the team
  • Implement a continuous improvement process on the Instructional Design Team to identify bottlenecks, streamline efficiencies, and standardize operations to scale

By the End of Your First Year, You’ll:
  • Develop strong and collaborative working relationships with internal staff and external vendors/contractors to meet business needs
  • Function as the subject matter expert for all things eLearning and Instructional Design
  • Be seen as a supportive and engaging people manager- centering your team members’ needs and supporting them in being and performing their best
  • Secure new opportunities for Over J through the Instructional Design Department
  • Research and apply for related RFIs and RFPs
  • Create innovative products and solutions to meet market demand and client needs

All roles are benchmarked annually to ensure competitive salary ranges. The annual salary range for the Manager, Instructional Design role is $74,000-$110,000. Starting salary is determined based on commensurate experience, knowledge, skills, & abilities to complete the essential functions of the role.
