The PublicAffairs and Bold Type Books imprints of Hachette Book Group are seeking a Marketing and Publicity Assistant to join our team and assist on a variety of nonfiction titles. Building buzz is of paramount importance to our business model, so we’re looking for a dynamic, creative, enthusiastic individual to help keep our groundbreaking books and authors in the public conversation.

As part of the marketing team, you’ll assist in creating marketing strategies for our books, help maintain our website and social media presence, and assist on email marketing and advertising plans. On the publicity side, you’ll see nonfiction publicity campaigns from manuscript through publication, including helping to create press materials, organize tours and events, scheduling interviews, and arranging travel.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with seasoned professionals and gain hands-on professional experience as you own day-to-day tasks, help with special projects, and attend interdepartmental meetings.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Has a strong interest in reading and promoting nonfiction books
  • Has excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Possesses a great attitude and a desire to learn as well as excellent organizational skills
  • Has an ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Has a strong focus on details and deadlines
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • Has some social media and/or design experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of and an appreciation for the ideas of diversity, equity, and inclusion

What you will work on:

  • Assist in marketing research for our forthcoming books
  • Help to maintain and update our website
  • Help manage social media channels
  • Assist in developing content for direct-to-consumer marketing initiatives
  • Help keep track of deadlines and other general administrative duties
  • Create press releases, pitch letters, promotional materials and media lists
  • Organize and coordinate author schedules
  • Circulating agendas and hosting web conference calls for several weekly meetings

The compensation range for this position is $45,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
