GEM Technologies, Inc. (GEM) is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM, which provides integral mission support to the NNSA. This position is full-time and will serve the Los Alamos National Laboratory in a fully remote capacity.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Must have HVAC/design/mechanical design skills.
- Blue Beam preferred but not required.
- Broad knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline.
- Ability to scope a project and produce an estimate of engineering effort.
- Ability to communicate well, both written and verbally.
- Ability to support construction execution, including timely review of submittals, requests for information, design changes, aid in non-conformance issues, validation of commissioning documentation and produce accurate as-built documents.
- Expert ability to collaboratively problem solve, show commitment, and function well in a team environment.
- Ability to manage, prioritize, and communicate work load and tasks.
- To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
- Due to the nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is required.

Overview:
- Serve on LANL design teams assessing, maintaining, designing, and upgrading existing facilities and infrastructure at LANL.
- Specific tasks include mentoring and leading junior engineers and self-producing construction design package documents.
- Provides quality assurance reviews of other designers work products.
- Interface and coordinate with project stakeholders.
- Provide troubleshooting field issues and providing technical engineering judgement.
- Perform scoping and estimating design effort.
- Provide and promote technical leadership, quality, and safety values, to co-workers, project stakeholders, external auditors, vendors, construction companies, and subcontractors.
- Provide design package production experience in commercial and /or industrial facilities design.
- Provide design package production experience in both HVAC and plumbing systems and /or systems infrastructure.
- Utilize application of building codes, standards and green initiatives to facilities design.
- Interacts with other discipline engineering teams to develop resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
- Contributes to the development of organizational goals and objectives.
- Provide self-direction on their own goals and objectives.
