Position Title: College Club-Project Ready Mentoring Coordinator
Schedule: 37.5 Hours a Week
Reports to: Director, Workforce Career Development and Youth & Education Initiative
CLASSIFACTION: Non-Exempt
Position Overview: This position entails responsibility for the direct service mentoring operations of the College Club-Project Ready Mentoring program. All operations will be managed and implemented according to established best practices in the mentoring field, with emphasis on the requirements for a Project Ready Mentoring grant. These operations include all operations related to the implementation, growth and development of the mentor/volunteer program.
Operations include, but are not limited to, training and screening adult and youth (peer) volunteers; matching volunteers one-to-one or small group with at-risk youth; interviewing and screening youth; providing follow-up support once each match is made; planning life skills workshops; planning and implementing a community-based activities program; coordinating the implementation of targeted services and programs (including alumni support services, academic support services, and youth community service opportunities), in coordination with other CBO and community support services; planning special activities for youth on the waiting list; and celebrating the valuable support of volunteers.
The College Club-Project Ready Mentoring Coordinator is responsible for not only maintaining a high standard of excellence in mentoring and support services to at-risk youth, but also taking initiative to further this goal. The College Club-Project Ready Mentoring Coordinator is responsible for meeting operational goals and objectives, keeping the organization informed of current research and information relevant to the program and working with Director, staff, students, parents and community partners to maintain an ongoing evaluation protocol, including required documentation, data collection. The College Club-Project Ready Mentoring Coordinator will represent the agency in the community and will evaluate special community collaboration opportunities.
The target population for this program is African American and other low and moderate-income (LMI) urban youth (ages 11-18) that are particularly vulnerable to community violence and disengagement from school, attend underperforming schools, are vulnerable to bullying and cyber-bullying, are court-involved or have been adjudicated.
Education, Training and Experience
- Requires a BS/BA or equivalent human service degree guidance, counseling, or related human service area, previous experience working with youth and their families.
- Display high level of professionalism and impeccable integrity and confidentiality.
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience in within a non-profit environment or in training development or mentoring training
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Data management experience
- Ability to pass drug screen/background check.
- Experience working with youth in an educational setting, STEAM curriculum and/or teaching experience is a plus.
- Experience using online platforms including but not limited to social media, Zoom, Khan Academy, etc.
- Proven ability to make presentations and lead facilitations for recruitment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to relate well to youth from diverse backgrounds and to understand the barriers to success that less advantaged youth often face.
- Ability to function effectively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of community resources for youth and families is a plus.
- Ability to interface with external parties and community partners.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple, competing tasks and demands.
- Must be customer service oriented.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
- Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
- May be required to work evening hours on some days during the week. May be required to work some assigned Saturdays throughout the year.
- Proficient in Office 365 products
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Works primarily indoors. Some travel may be required for various tasks such as employer recruitment, meetings and/or facility tours.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent agency in the community.
- Actively participate in ULDSEM special event committees and projects.
- Communicate with school personnel, families, referral agencies and other organizations on behalf of the Mentoring program and as representative of the agency.
- Ensure that program services are carried out, such as activities, follow-up support to matches and life skills workshops.
- Keep agency current on all volunteer screening issues and techniques.
- Work with Director, Program Manager and consultants to develop and implement ongoing evaluation procedures.
- Manage evaluation data collection.
- Provide reports as needed to Director, including monthly data into an operational summary.
- Assist in other programmatic functions as required, such as special events, to support the program.
- Collaborate with director in exploring community collaborations and developing supplemental support services for youth, including the lead in the Mentor Group.
- Recruit and maintain not less than 20 volunteers per year
- Identify, evaluate and propose solutions to program areas that need special attention.
- Coordinate mentoring services content for Web page.
- Manage a caseload of mentor matches meeting the NUL/Mentoring – the current requirement is 50 matches per year via group or individual.
- Manage an additional caseload of other matches meeting best practices in mentoring and recruit the additional recruitment of volunteers to develop into mentors.
- Participate in staff development opportunities and follow research in the mentor field.
- Make weekly contact with matched volunteers.
- Develop an annual Program Plan that includes, but is not limited to, planned training workshops for volunteers, community recruitment activities and support groups.
- Maintain effective communication within the agency Director and with the community on the progress of the project.
- Complete the required reporting, attend, and report to the Director and NUL on the project.
- Establish a local advisory council- meets quarterly (representatives from law enforcement, educators, public health, higher education, etc.)
- Ensure that Mentors are certified by NUL and our partners.
- Utilize NUL’s online training, project, and data management portals.
- Work effectively and closely with NUL’s evaluator (years 2-4)
