Overview

The purpose of this job is to lead district efforts to increase achievement for all students by supporting job-embedded teachers and pre-service candidates in HCS Grow Your Own programs throughout the district. The ideal candidate for this position will engage with GYO participants as an advocate and coach, looking to coordinate the resources and feedback necessary for all of our GYO teachers to be and feel successful. This role will include significant coordination with multiple stakeholders from our schools, district leadership, and university partners to align supports for GYO teachers. The key metrics for this position are in-program retention of GYO candidates, teacher impact on student achievement, and principal satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Builds trust and rapport with teachers in GYO programming by maintaining a high degree of visibility in their classrooms and through consistent communication.
  • Coaches, supports and mentors GYO teachers in effective practices that directly support school initiatives
  • Advocates for GYO teachers’ needs with all stakeholders.
  • Maintains clear, consistent, and data-centered communication to all GYO stakeholders, including district leadership, school administration, and university partners.
  • Works with teachers individually, in collaborative teams, and/or with departments, providing practical support on a full range of instructional strategies.
  • Conducts regular meetings with GYO teachers to examine student work and monitor progress in order to support teacher reflection and action.
  • Conducts regular check-ins with district and school-based staff involved in the coaching of GYO candidates, including the Induction team and school-based coaches.
  • Develops and leads professional development opportunities for teams of teachers as isolated GYO activities and in conjunction with the New Teacher Academy.
  • Holds GYO teachers accountable for the implementation of presented strategies in follow-up feedback cycles.
  • Supports GYO teachers in lesson planning by cultivating knowledge of Hamilton County curriculum guides and university partners’ planning expectations.
  • Works closely with school administration to inform their coaching
  • Maintains accurate and consistent documentation of coaching cycles and resource coordination
  • Participates in Grow Your Own program planning and makes recommendations for ongoing support of GYO candidates to district leadership and university partners.
  • Conducts GYO informational sessions for a variety of stakeholder groups.
  • Cultivates and manages active candidate database, with input from other GYO team members
  • Maintains appropriate licensure and acknowledges that continued employment with the Hamilton County Department of Education is contingent upon providing required documentation to validate licensure in a timely manner.
  • Implements district, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws.
  • Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, education conferences and other activities that promote professional growth and student achievement.
  • Works collaboratively with administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Attends work and arrives to work on time.
  • Maintains confidentiality.

Qualifications


Knowledge/Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with certification as specified by state and federal standards for the teaching position held. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required.
  • Experience in facilitating professional learning is preferred
  • Previous experience working with a district coach is preferred.
  • Candidates with Exceptional Education experience preferred.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, parents, and community members.
  • Knowledgeable about formative and diagnostic assessments and research based instructional practices.
  • Deep understanding of best practices for teaching.

Compensation
