The Opportunity:

This position is for a Safety Manager for a MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) station repair project located at 10 stations in Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn, NY. Please do not apply unless you have NYCT experience with minimum 90 days of Right of Way experience under flagging and General Order and be able to satisfy the below qualification requirements.

Safety Manager Position:

The Safety Manager reports to the Project Manager and is responsible for the oversight and enforcement of the Contractor’s conformance with all required safety and environmental requirements. Individual has full managerial responsibility for a given scope of work and the direction, control, and utilization of a staff of professionals and support personnel (at least eight (8) or more in number). Requires a bachelor’s degree plus related experience, or the equivalent.

Safety Manager’s Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. The Safety Manager’s sole responsibility shall be the management of all safety and security matters in accordance with MTA C&D, and MTA procedures and guidelines. The Safety Manager shall ensure that the Contractor shall maintain safe, clean and healthy worksites until Final Completion of the Project

2. The Safety Manager shall review and approve all safety related submissions, including the Contractor’s Accident Prevention Program and Hazard Communication Program, the Contractor’s Safety Management Program, the Contractor’s key safety personnel such as the Safety Engineer and Safety Supervisors and the Contractor’s Safe Work Plans, in collaboration with MTA C&D Safety Management.

3. The Safety Manager shall maintain a log for all Safe Work Plans and ensure that no work starts without approved Safe Work Plans.

4. The Safety Manager shall coordinate and participate in periodic safety walkthroughs with the Construction Contractor.

5. The Safety Manager and/or his designee shall perform ongoing spot checks of both Contractor photo ID’s and Contractor Access Forms as part of their daily inspection responsibilities. Prior to each working shift, all Contractor and Subcontractor personnel must be identified to the MTA using the “Contractor Access Form” and photo ID. The Safety Manager will maintain the Contractor Access Form as part of the Contractor’s permanent files.

Safety Manager’s Qualifications (Must satisfy all):

1. The Safety Manager shall be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.

2. The Safety Manager shall successfully complete the Authority’s Track Safety Training course and maintain Track Safety certification for the duration of the project.

3. The Safety Manager shall have at least ninety (90) days prior Right of Way (RoW) experience under flagging and/or General Order.

4. Successful completion of the 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety & Health (29 CFR 1926) Course.

5. The Safety Manager shall possess and maintain a current C-3 or C-5 Supervisor or Competent Person training for De-Leading of Industrial Structures Certificate for the duration of the project.

6. The PMC Safety Manager shall possess and maintain a current New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) Asbestos Inspector’s License for the duration of the project.

7. Successful completion of the 1-day NYC-Department of Buildings Site Safety Manager (Chapter 33) Orientation Course.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $60.00 - $70.00 per hour
