We’re currently seeking a talented Project Engineer I. This is a key role at Over J and will help us with scheduling, planning, forecasting, resourcing, and managing technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality. The Project Engineer I will be housed in the Engineering department, will report to the Program Manager, and will work closely with Project Engineers and Associate Engineers. The Project Engineer I will be a full-time position and is expected to work on-site in our Downtown Los Angeles office. The position is open until filled, but we are hoping to have our new Project Engineer I in the saddle by the end of August 2022.

A DAY IN THE LIFE:
The Project Engineer I is a fast paced and collaborative role and will have a variety of duties. To be a successful Project Engineer, you should have the ability to work with multiple discipline projects and demonstrate excellent project management and supervision skills. You should also have excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills. The Project Engineer I’s responsibilities include:
  • Applies sound engineering knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of project assignments.
  • Coordinates and directs development of work, scope, budget, and schedule for projects and tasks.
  • Coordinates input from, and participation with, various departments within the company as needed to meet project objectives.
  • Follow up on implementation of recommendations and/or acceptance of conclusions to assess accuracy and/or completeness.
  • Manage and coordinate all activities leading to the successful completion of tasks and projects including scoping of project, cost estimates, budgeting, design and start-up.
  • Development or improvement of program processes.
  • Interpret state and federal codes, industry standards and specifications for customers and internal clients.
  • Developing contacts with key engineers and officials in other organizations to confirm that engineering, practices applied are consistent with current engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and current technological innovations.
  • Providing input to project managers and senior leadership concerning potential process and design improvements related to engineering design and technology.
  • Following systems of quality control and checking on all projects assigned.
  • Developing and maintaining quality relationships with clients.
  • Maintaining a collaborative spirit in working within the Business Unit and with other Business Units providing the most optimum project team for projects often using personnel from multiple Business Units.
  • Assists project managers during the preparation and review of engineering designs, specifications, standards, studies, cost estimates, and the development of sound technical recommendations, in support of projects and tasks managed by others.
  • Applies a high level of technical expertise to solve operational problems identified by staff.
  • Coordinates and/or directs small projects and tasks, including the development of work scopes, budget, and schedule.
SUPERPOWERS:
We are looking for a super star in the field of engineering. You will need the following skills/abilities:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Required
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification Desired
  • 2-3 years of previous related engineering experience required.
  • Requires knowledge of engineering practices and concepts, cost analysis, and applicable policies.
  • Requires ability to plan and manage workload so that assignments are completed on time and in proper priority.
  • Requires ability to review problems and propose innovative solutions, which involve technical, operations, and economic issues, and may link new concepts and technologies.
  • Ability to provide direct and guidance to fellow engineers.
  • Ability to apply engineering/technical principles to analyze and resolves problems.
  • Must possess the ability to effectively interact with various departments to maintain open lines of communication.
  • Must clearly and concisely communicate technical and non-technical information and concepts with various levels of management and stakeholders in both form and informal settings.
  • Moderate to advanced computer knowledge.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheets and database analysis tools.
