The Provost is a member of the faculty and the University’s chief academic officer. In that capacity the Provost reports to President Marvin Krislov. The Provost is the leading voice of the faculty and a steadfast advocate for the academic mission of Pace. The Provost oversees six academic schools and colleges and has 30-reporting divisions comprised of 1300 full and part time faculty, a staff of 470, and a budget of $200 million.
The Provost manages a talented team of 13 academic leaders, including: the Deans of the academic colleges and schools, three associate provosts (academic affairs, research, and student success), the assistant vice president of academic finance, the associate vice president of international programs and services, the executive director of provost operations/chief of staff, and both the associate dean and the executive director of the Pforzheimer Honors College.
The Provost will also partner with the Co-Directors of the newly launched Barry M. and Jackie Gosin Center for Equity and Inclusion, which aims to support a pillar of the University’s strategic plan to be an anti-racist institution. The Gosin Center will elevate job placement and entrepreneurship among Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) students; support and facilitate opportunities to develop equity literacy, inclusive curricula, and anti-oppression pedagogies; and nurture and expand University spaces for collaborative critical inquiry, co-curricular engagement, and community partnership regarding equity and inclusion.

Position Duties

The Provost will identify collaborations among the academic programs, streamline communications between them, and encourage innovative partnerships across campus that provide multidisciplinary and unique opportunities for the intellectual community. In addition to providing key academic vision in collaboration with the President and others, the Provost will work to further strengthen the operational and administrative functions of the academic enterprise to ensure that great, innovative ideas become reality and to drive enrollment – attracting and retaining students and prepare students to meet the challenges of the ever-changing world.

Provide Transparent and Collaborative Leadership: The Provost will represent the academic priorities and aspirations of Pace to the faculty, the Board of Trustees, staff, alumni and key donors, the external community, current students, prospective students, and families, among others. In all these interactions, the Provost must be an articulate, persuasive, and engaging presence. The Provost will listen and synthesize the perspectives of a diverse range of individuals, value the unique culture offered at each of the three Pace campuses, and identify areas of consensus and shared opportunity. Finally, the Provost should be a knowledgeable and informed participant in the national conversation about the future of higher education nationally and globally, as the University adapts to the changing landscape.
Value shared governance and provide quality opportunities for faculty engagement: The Provost will work collaboratively with faculty leadership to facilitate productive and substantive conversations to arrive at clear, actionable solutions to advance the academic mission. The Provost will bring an inclusive and balanced approach to complex challenges and encourage dialogue and process to achieve solutions. In addition, the Provost will help broaden and deepen external relations that strengthen community-based learning and advance experiential opportunities for students with community partners. Embracing Pace’s commitment to experiential learning, the Provost will continue to build relationships and explore new opportunities for collaboration with community, non-profit, government, and for-profit organizations.
Support faculty and staff development: The Provost will focus on sustainable career lifecycles and foster an environment that values varied forms of contribution to the institution’s mission. The Provost will empower members of the Pace community to develop and sustain meaningful and rewarding careers. By allocating resources, whether financial or otherwise, the Provost will support quality teaching and scholarship. The Provost will bring faculty voices to the table in their engagement with administrators and the Board of Trustees. They will work across disciplines, departments, and programs to understand the unique needs and challenges faculty face, and will work collaboratively with faculty of all ranks to create plans that address specific needs and challenges.
