Job description
Odyssey Systems is recruiting for a Public Health Data Analyst (Jr. or Sr.) to support research and operational health studies that have the goal of improving readiness, combat effectiveness, and soldier health. In this role, the Public Health Analyst will work within the Department of Epidemiology. Their research is directed toward a wide spectrum of public health issues affecting military readiness and national security. Tasks may require acquiring data from multiple military sources, entering, cleaning and merging data to create an analytic dataset, performing statistical analyses, generating results, and preparing reports and presentations.

Responsibilities:- Epidemiologic study design, database and statistical programming, analyzing military-specific datasets.
- Conduct epidemiologic analyses of computerized datasets using standard packages to import, update, and manipulate datasets.
- Utilize SAS programming to evaluate, cleanse, collate and conduct analyses of complex quantitative military health data.
- Assess epidemiologic research design and translate concepts into relevant analyses.
- Develop quantitative epidemiological models using data from a variety of sources.
- Apply statistical techniques including random selection of matched controls in case control studies, survival analysis, analysis of variance and covariance, analysis of repeated measures, correlation, linear, logistic, and Poisson regression, and calculation of odds ratios, relative risk, p-values, interval estimation, and sample size and power estimations.
- Interpret and apply statistical techniques, and to explain methods and findings to non-statistician research team members.
- Translate results to support medical decision making
- Develop and deliver division analytical reports and oral/visual presentations to professional groups, as well as publish manuscripts in peer reviewed journals.
- Experience in management and supervision of analysts and epidemiologic study design and execution.
- Must have a strong working knowledge of SAS, Microsoft Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
- Experience with military preventive medicine issues, military populations, military structure, datasets.
- Experience in epidemiologic study design and execution
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Strong communication skills, interpersonal, negotiation, consensus-building, and analytical skills with the ability to work successfully in cross functional teams in an organized, fast-paced environment while meeting time sensitive deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills needed to keep research team informed of progress and changes in status of work.
- Must be able to work on multiple projects at the same time.
- Ability to interact with military leadership and other personnel efficiently and clearly.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Tableau and/or other data visualization tools a plus.
- Onsite at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, MD
- May travel to meetings and conferences when necessary.
