Recovery Coach-Project Assert
Home of New Vision is a substance use disorder treatment and recovery services provider with locations in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and Jackson, Michigan. We are seeking a Recovery Coach with lived experience, to be part of an exciting program conducted within the University of Michigan Psychiatric Emergency Room. This position works closely with the PES team to assist individuals that present at PES and whom have a primary or complicating substance use disorder.
Job responsibilities include:
- Conduct Project Assert, which is a nationally recognized, evidence-based program using motivational interviewing to encourage patients and family members to seek care for risky use of substances. It also helps patients’ access primary care, clinical preventive services, and treatment for alcohol and substance use disorders.
- Conduct follow up calls and room visits for patients
- Conduct community education to stigma reduction and overdose with families and staff that they meet through this intervention.
- Work 1:1 with individuals in early recovery
- Meet with recent survivors of overdose to assist with recovery efforts
- Work with both internal and external stake holders to promote recovery
- Be able to promote and arrange treatment for willing patients
Ideal candidates will be able to:
- Be willing to share their lived experience
- Self-starter; motivated
- Ability to work independently and within a team setting
- Be reliable
- Must have a good grasp of grammar/punctuation/spelling and the writing skills required to create and manage reports and documentation
- Be willing to occasionally work weekend or evenings
- Live within Washtenaw County or close communities
- Be certified with the State of Michigan or CCAR trained or a willingness to become certified
- Must be able to present professionally to co-workers in the PES setting and be able to make quick connections with the patients they meet with for Project Assert
- Lived experience as a person in sustained recovery is required, other human service training or experience highly desired.
- Must have a willingness and desire to work with people in crisis and who may be experiencing a mental health crisis, as well as substance use
- Must be willing and able to complete any requirements the University of Michigan might deem necessary for working in their facilities. Examples may include: TB testing, Flu vaccine, Covid19 vaccine, masking, back ground checks, agreeing to requirements of U or M facilities and programs
