SMSI, LLC is seeking an experienced Reliability Engineer for long term assignments on our contact at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The need is immediate. Position is direct hire and is a full-time position.
Job Description:

Process Equipment Maintenance & Decontamination Services provides a comprehensive and integrated maintenance program supporting plutonium process equipment for DOE Nuclear facilities. Activities include routine glovebox (GB) maintenance, programmatic equipment maintenance as requested, and maintenance planning and engineering support. Routine GB maintenance encompasses surveillance, preventative maintenance, and repairs to the associated confinement barrier and system components.

Programmatic process equipment maintenance services range from routine preventive maintenance (PMs), corrective maintenance (CMs), complex equipment and component replacements, work planning and IWD development, and the development and management of maintenance activities to include regular room wipes downs and decontamination services.

GB and programmatic process equipment maintenance activities are performed by TA55-PMDS as directed by the owning/operating groups in compliance with Conduct of Engineering (CoE), Conduct of Operations (CoO), and Conduct of Maintenance (CoM) policies.

Additionally, PMDS staff provide support for many of the Institutional and Plant-Wide (IPW) efforts, including fissile material handler (FMH), GB worker training and plan development; replacement component design and procurement; causal and failure analysis; reliability, availability, maintainability, and inspectability (RAMI) analyses and maintenance support of other systems such as potentially contaminated utilities.



Duties & Responsibilities:


As a Reliability Engineer, determine the reliability of components, equipment, and processes. By documenting, prioritizing, planning, delivering, and evaluating a plant s operations, the Reliability Engineer will help minimize the risk and impact of failure in equipment and processes.

  • Area focus includes loss elimination, risk management and life cycle asset management.
  • Conducts cost analysis to determine savings while not increasing the risk of failures/limitations which includes a comprehensive understanding of all the different elements of process and testing to find potential answers.
  • Identifies potential failures, root causes and underlying reasons for identified issues and work towards continual improvements.
  • Ability to develop the necessary work instructions, IWD s or DOPS to begin executing identified maintenance to reduce the risks to equipment that have been identified.
  • Works with process engineers to get their involvement in the work activities and mitigations identified.
  • Identifies equipment to start developing and implementing a real time monitor system for critical parameters unique to each piece of equipment to get ahead of potential failures or issues.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Business, or other disciplines is desirable but not required; will consider equivalent technical training and experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the field or related field.
  • Knowledge of engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of technology aided engineering tools to conventional facility and operations-based engineering problems.
  • Experience with Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Inspectability (RAMI) Analysis.
  • Knowledge/understanding of engineering work planning and controls methods.
  • Knowledge/understanding of engineering maintenance techniques and construction methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of industry, regulatory, and/or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to maintenance and reliability.
  • Experience with project and process engineering practices.
  • Sound knowledge of Engineering principles and procedures, design guides, and appropriate standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Capable with MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
