As a Research Associate in the Core Facility, you will function as the coordinator to schedule, perform and support ISB’s core facility equipment and administrative processes. The Research Associate will perform core specific scientific and laboratory research services to ISB faculty and researchers. The Research Associate also provides all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively while following all SOPs and health and safety procedures.
Essential Functions

• *Aid in the scheduling and usage of instruments, monitor and track user’s billable hours, and generate monthly billing reports.

• Assist with budget management, rate setting, expense management for core.

• Coordinate services provided to users as samples are submitted and move through the various stages of processing.

• Perform laboratory techniques and procedures in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations.

• Generates daily/monthly instrument Q/C and Q/A reports. Informs senior staff of inconsistencies or problems with the instruments.

• Perform and record regular scheduled maintenance on the instruments.

• Ensures the core facility is in compliance with cGMPs, CAP and other laboratory regulations.

• Implement data management protocols and procedures to ensure archival back-up.

• Provide education and Instrument training to new lab personnel

• Troubleshoot machine failure and limit instrument downtime.

• Support and assist investigators with experimental design, troubleshooting and interpretation of results.

• Maintains expert knowledge of scientific techniques, computer software, computer hardware, and other relevant scientific resources in his or her subject area.

• Keeps detailed records in lab notebooks in accordance with company policy.

• Create and modify laboratory SOPs, training documents and visual aids.

• Makes detailed observations and organizes data for analyses.

• Attends required company seminars/meetings to enhance knowledge in company objectives and scientific discipline.

• Fully complies with all company health & safety procedures and practices.

Hazards or Physical demands: While performing duties of this job may occasionally be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, biological waste, risk from electrical shock, and possible injury due to failures of laboratory and other equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age. Requires a BS/BA in biology, chemistry or a closely related field plus 3-5 years of directly related experience or equivalent combination of related education and experience including training in a scientific discipline and familiarity with working in a clinical laboratory or research setting. Training in bio-safety and blood borne pathogen training is required prior to starting work.
Must have good interpersonal and communications skills; able to work effectively with variety of people in a diverse workforce; adaptable to changing work requirements; willing to multi-task; high degree of professional integrity; strong client service orientation.
All ISB staff members are expected to have baseline technical skills and the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately over email, the intranet/forum, etc. Employees should be able to use Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint (or open source equivalent) at a functional level.

Pay Range:

$22.45 - 35.47 per hour
