The UR Medicine Department of Surgery is a place where discoveries are made, and the most complex and challenging diseases are cured. Our mission is not only to treat disease, but also to conduct innovative research that enables us to gain a greater understanding of the biological mechanisms of disease, identify new technologies for improved diagnostics and treatment and to develop novel surgical approaches.

The Department of Surgery is looking for a Grant Research Administrator. The Grant Research Administrator will oversee the administrative and financial reporting efforts for pre and post-award sponsored research. The Grant Research Administrator will work closely with the Research Program Manager on strategic planning and implementation of Department objectives.

The Research Administrator will achieve this through:

Grants Management:

  • Collaborating with leadership and Principal Investigators (PI’s) to prepare, update, and maintain template language and administrative (non-technical) grant sections for use across divisions.
  • Prepare and assemble proposal package and project budget for submission.
  • Review and forward Federal (National Institutes of Health - NIH) announcements, Foundation, and other funding opportunities.

Research Administration:

  • Managing ongoing and emerging research initiatives for the Department
  • Monitor grant submission deadlines and needs for funded projects.
  • Sends regular reports to sponsoring agencies

Fiscal Administration:

  • Identify funding changes and approaching project end dates to identify upcoming funding gaps and develop a funding plan.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Research Accountant, implement and execute solutions for consistent financial management.

Administrative Support:

  • Advise and support the research staff and faculty with personnel hiring and administration
  • Assist PIs and study teams with the new hire onboarding process.

The successful Research Administrator will have:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years relevant experience
  • 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or management capacity, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience in higher education, medical sciences research, and grants administration preferred
  • Knowledge of the associated reporting guidelines for sponsored funds is beneficial.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, including written communication.
  • Excellent analysis and project management skills.
