Research Scientist
Job description
The Research Scientist will function as an expert and resource in cancer research at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Ohio State University Medical Center.
Key Responsibilities:
Conceptualize, design, implement, evaluate, and direct research with regard to cancer, including, but not limited to, basic and advanced molecular biology techniques
Develop, adopt and implement new laboratory methods
Develop hypothesis and experimental approaches to hypothesis testing
Participate as a team member in conferences with researchers to interpret data and discuss project progress
Collaborate with other researchers in determining research priorities and planning programs of research
Develop, write and submit grant proposals of original research as principal investigator to extramural funding agencies to obtain significant salary and research support from outside funding agencies
Administer grants and direct and manage grant budgets
Troubleshoot problems
Advises staff and researchers on new technology and trends in molecular biology
Develop and conduct educational workshops, lectures, and seminars
Manage and oversee the selection and design of research methodologies used for data analysis and establishes procedures
Perform research for new methods and makes recommendations regarding research procedures
Keep up to date with relevant published literature as well as develop and write research manuscripts, articles, and abstracts and write project reports
Presents ongoing work and findings at academic and international conferences
Supervises graduate students and other members of staff, trains junior investigators, post-doctoral researchers, graduate students, and technicians within a laboratory
Minimum Education Required:
Doctoral/Professional degree in appropriate field required
Minimum Experience Required:
Demonstrated ability to be a competent and productive researcher i.e. incumbent will have authored several publications of considerable interest and value to the field as evidenced by favorable reviews, by citation in the work of others, by presentations of papers to professional societies, and/or will have contributed inventions, new designs, or techniques which are of material significance in the solution of important applied problems
