Summary:
The Research Technician in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s Neurology department performs routine research and laboratory duties.
Responsibilities include: providing assistance with various experiments and test following standard research methodologies, procedures, and verbal and written instructions; maintains animals for experiments including housing, feeding, breeding, watering and cleaning activities; maintaining laboratory equipment and related supplies; conducting various measurements and limited analysis consistent with research protocol; records, compiles, and organizes data according to methods and procedures established in the experimental design; operates and maintains moderately complex laboratory equipment; checks equipment for malfunctions and may perform minor repairs prepares solutions and reagents; receives and stocks incoming supplies and animals; distributes, maintains, and stocks chemicals in storage and lab areas; orders supplies as directed; must be able to organize and carry out specific experiments with some independence and yet interact effectively with other members of the laboratory in order to utilize most effective laboratory resources. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
At least three years of related research experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to organize and carry out specific experiments.
- Demonstrated experience working with mice and rodents for experiments including preparing mice and rodents for surgery and assisting with minor surgical techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to operate standard office.
- Demonstrated computer skills, and proficiency with MS office Suite.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, along with the ability to meet deadlines and be detailed-oriented.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a group.
- Demonstrated ability to operate specialized heavy/laboratory/scientific equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work in an environment exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- Demonstrated ability to work in an environment exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
This is a grant funded position.
