Product Owner
The Broad Institute’s Genomics Platform (GP) seeks to hire a Product Owner. This individual will create and own the roadmap for one of GP’s software applications. GP’s software suite includes customer-facing portals, LIMS, sample analysis, and data delivery. This role’s main responsibilities include:
  • Liaising with GP executive sponsors and other members of the GP leadership team to craft a Vision for the software application and its crucial role in GP’s business
  • Articulating the vision and setting priorities for the application and its capabilities.
  • Working with various stakeholders to create and maintain a prioritized product roadmap
  • Understanding how the products and services that the GP Informatics team delivers will serve our scientific community. Monitoring emerging technology, learning from your team, and deeply understanding your customers to build a roadmap for the application team to follow
  • Working with various groups within GP as well as outside GP (external and internal collaborators) to deeply understand their needs and to work with them to open up new possibilities through the products and services GP Informatics team builds
  • Interacting with application users, both internal and external, to solicit feedback
  • Transforming user feedback into actionable and impactful changes to the application
  • Creating, maintaining, and owning detailed software requirements and other associated documentation to align with our SDLC
  • Collaborating with Business Analysts, Software Developers, and other stakeholders on roadmap planning and feature prioritization
  • Working closely with the development team and project manager to understand the project timelines and clearly communicate the timelines to the business stakeholders
  • Creating reports, dashboards and visualizations to understand business workflows and performance
  • Identifying and promoting specific opportunities to enhance and automate business processes
  • Analyzing process issues and bottlenecks to make improvements
This individual will be joining a group of informatics professionals who work together as a team, enabling GP to more efficiently complete our highest priority work. The position should afford an opportunity to gain experience with technical and engineering solutions employed by the GP Informatics team.
Required Education:
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent
Required Experience:
  • 5-7 years experience in a life science or related field
  • A passion for understanding the technology needs of our scientific community and translating that understanding into clearly defined priorities for our development teams.
  • An understanding of the Informatics landscape and how technology products & services are delivered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, presentation skills
  • Previous experience eliciting and documenting software requirements to facilitate rapid design and iteration
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and extract decisions
  • Technical experience to facilitate discussions with technical teams
  • Previous experience managing large and complex projects

Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience within the life sciences
  • Previous experience with genomics
  • Previous genomics lab experience
