POSITION SUMMARY:

Pharmacy at BMC Health System is a broad, complex organization made up of one of the largest integrated specialty pharmacies in the country, a leading clinical program (including a residency program), cutting edge clinical programs, and a health insurance company (managing over 400,000 lives and over $400MM in pharmacy spend).

The Strategy Manager will work on projects across BMC Health System Pharmacy, including inpatient, ambulatory outpatient clinics, specialty pharmacy, mail order, consulting, and health plan.

The ideal candidate will play a critical role in leading initiatives for pharmacy: engaging key stakeholders, developing critical analyses, driving decisions, and implementing change. She or he will work directly with the VP and other senior leaders on a day-to-day basis. This role represents an ideal entry point for those looking to lead within a healthcare organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support the Vice President in the development of business opportunities, setting strategy and goals with the VP, modeling impacts and leading analysis of data and issues
  • Assess the performance of a department or group based on quantitative and qualitative data, develop a vision for turnaround and improvement, build support for this vision and manage stakeholders towards successful implementation
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting key deadlines and deliverables
  • Help to set comprehensive goals for performance and growth and ensure the teams hit those goals
  • Collect data across BMC Health System's internal systems (clinical, operational, IT, HR, etc.) and conduct rigorous analysis to support decision-making Define the operating model for each department that is robust yet customizable, and yields predictable outcomes
  • With an eye on scalability, develop and codify
    • Staffing standards that determine operating team structures and sizes for different department situations
    • Help leadership team develop and refine workflows for their respective operations to ensure seamless end-to-end performance
    • Initiatives to drive operating efficiency and effectiveness
  • Partner with IT teams to help create solutions that support operations' analytics and workflow needs

  • Establish and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all departments with special focus on BMC and section goals (e.g., quality, growth, efficiency)
  • Provides oversight to project management for end-to-end implementation on strategic projects Support development, sales and execution of external business opportunities like consulting, contracted services, strategic partnerships
  • Especially for external business development, support driving broader work streams or issue resolution during go-live as needed, e.g., pharmacy operations, distribution, IT, marketing etc.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Help lead staff development activities and promote teamwork and positive morale
  • Be a champion for BMC / Pharmacy culture and norms with corporate, client, and on-site teams, ensuring it flows through in every interaction and process
  • Help build systems and processes to identify, hire, onboard and develop quality talent
  • Participate as a member of the operations team and help meet corporate objectives
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings with the ops team to disseminate company information and reviews performance against budget and plan objectives
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers and other stakeholders, including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure

Personnel & Staff Responsibilities
  • Provide support for the BMC Health System Pharmacy team by modeling the organization's policies and applicable laws, and holding others to the same standards. Responsibilities include interviewing; hiring; helping to develop training materials; support in planning, assigning, and directing work; helping to address complaints and resolving problems.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
  • B.A. or B.S. from four-year college or university (healthcare / finance / pharmacy degree preferred)

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • None

EXPERIENCE:
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience is required
  • Prior strategy consulting experience at a top-tier consulting firm, with experience developing and launching complex programs for clients in a cross-functional environment OR prior finance experience
  • Prior Pharmacy business and operations experience a plus (not necessary)

  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop support from different hospital functions, vendors, and partners
  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communications skills along with the ability to distill complex analysis and recommendations into succinct, persuasive executive presentations.
  • Expert quantitative analysis and critical reasoning skills; ability to quickly break down complex problems and support findings with data
  • Highest level of integrity and respect for patients and colleagues
