Description:ENTRY LEVEL POSITION
Responsible for providing minors and tobacco strategies including: community education, retail merchant education, media awareness and tobacco coalition building. Increase the effectiveness and visibility of prevention education and materials to coordinate smokeless tobacco prevention education strategies within rural counties of the state in Region 6.
Contact a minimum of 200 retailers per month in the region by conducting:

• On-site visits to request voluntary compliance with the state law not to sell tobacco products to minors and to ask for identification of anyone under the age of 27
• Distribute State Comptroller issued warning signs to tobacco retailers for education purposes/voluntary compliance;
• Provide information to tobacco retailers who have been cited for a violation regarding the Texas Tobacco Law in the PRC region 6 requesting voluntary compliance with the state law.
• Conduct tobacco prevention presentations for minors, parents and other community members that include discussion of the state law, information regarding the adverse health consequences of tobacco use and the gateway relationship of tobacco to other drugs
• Provide information to the media on minors and tobacco to increase public awareness on an ongoing basis
• Participate in community tobacco prevention coalitions and/or activities related to minors and tobacco issues
• Produce and submit monthly documentation in a professional and timely manner
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:Education /Experience

• Associate degree in human services related discipline required
• Strong knowledge of tobacco and its impact on health
• Strong presentation skills
• Proficient computer skills

• Ability to work with diverse communities at various levels
• Ability to work productively with minimal supervision
• Good verbal and written skills
• Ability to reflect a professional image in behavior and dress
• Reliable transportation
• Valid and current automobile insurance required for all vehicles driven for work purposes.
