Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification):
  • Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in the field of human resources, criminal justice, public administration, business administration, education, behavioral sciences or a related field is required.
  • Possession of a valid Ohio Operator’s Permit
Job Duties (Summary):
  • Present evidence-based courses in areas pertaining to service provision in one or more of the following: behavioral health, community corrections, prevention, leadership and development;
  • Utilize adult learning principles to engage staff and transfer learning;
  • Develop and/or implement new training initiatives in accordance with agency standards and practices;
  • Obtain additional training and certification as required to provide course content;
  • Remain up to date with current research on effective interventions and treatment models within specific areas of focus;
  • Train on various electronic systems in order to enhance client care;
  • Ability to research and support developed course content with reliable research and references;
  • Collect, monitor and utilize customer feedback and evaluation to enhance customer outcomes;
  • Prepares reports, manuals and general correspondence;
  • Conducts, schedules regular training;
  • Schedules subject matter expert for training with staff;
  • Conduct and assist in new employee, annual, and on-the-job training for all staff;
  • Assist in the development of training curricula to meet specific performance objectives;
  • Test, measure, and evaluate trainee performance based on established standards;
  • Researches and develops ideas and topics for training programs, etc.; Consults with key internal and external stakeholders to define the scope of training and user support needs, and develops and delivers training and user support expertise to enhance productivity/performance;
  • Remains current on software/system/automation updates; completes testing and collaboration with Information Systems and State Information Systems to fully understand and regression test updates and changes. Assists in the creation and implementation of communication plans for changes/enhancements and updates; escalates issues/barriers to training or successful implementation;
  • Measures and improves training effectiveness by developing pre and post test tools, individual and group needs assessments, and analysis of training (the methodology used is outcome based and measurable);
  • Ensures facilities, equipment, materials, participation, etc. are available; Operates audio-visual equipment; designs and distributes flyers, posters and brochures; and
  • Attends conferences and training.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong facilitation/presentation skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail and flexibility;
  • Work independently and create relationships with area non-profits;
  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and other relevant software;
  • Ability to manage time effectively and efficiently;
  • Knowledge of classroom based training delivery and adult learning principles;
  • Travel locally in personal vehicle;
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of Staff Development and Training Division including Administrative Procedures;
  • Working knowledge of “Adult Learning” principles;
  • Working knowledge of training correctional issues, treatment programs, custody issues, ACA, DRC, PREA standards and departmental policies and procedure;
  • Excellent communication skills; and
  • Ability to present and execute detailed lesson plans.

Correctional Center setting, moderate noise.
Physical Demands
Work involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, listening, stooping and reaching with hands and arms.
Communications
Conveys and receives information in person, over the telephone and/ or cell phone, via the internet and fax machine.
