Billinual Post Conviction Victim Services Advocate

Stamford, Darien and Norwalk location

The Alliance is the statewide coalition of sexual assault crisis service programs working to end sexual violence through victim assistance, community education, and public policy advocacy. The mission of Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence is to create communities free of sexual violence and to provide culturally affirming, trauma-informed advocacy, prevention, and intervention services centered on the voices of survivors.

Under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor of Post-Conviction Victim Services, the Post-Conviction Victim Services Advocate is responsible for providing outreach and advocacy, information and referral services for sexual assault victims, their families and other secondary victims whose offender is being supervised by Office of Adult Probation Sex Offender Supervision Unit.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide information to the victim, victim’s family or other appropriate secondary victims about the sex offender supervision unit, the offender’s status, conditions of probation, and other information deemed appropriate including information about behavior violation(s) and pending court action;
  • Provide information and referral services to victims, their families and other secondary victims for ongoing counseling and other services;
  • Establish a communication link with the victim, victim’s family, and other secondary victims to provide feedback from them to the unit that will assist the team in the supervision of the offender;
  • Participate in offender treatment programs including counseling groups and victim empathy segments; participate with the sex offender supervision units on home and field visits; attend and participate in the sex offender supervision unit staff meetings and trainings;
  • Assist with the education of the community and other professionals regarding the sex offender supervision unit, community registration and sex offender notification, community involvement in offender supervision, victim issues, prevention and risk reduction and available resources;

Minimum Qualifications Include

  • Demonstrated experience working with victims of sexual assault
  • Bilingual, Spanish
  • BA in Social Work or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to women’s issues
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to accurately update and maintain records
  • Possession of sexual assault counselor certification or willingness to obtain within six (6) months of employment
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle required

Additional Information:

The successful candidate must acquire and maintain Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor/Advocate Certification within first six months of employment.
