Summary: Responsible for the supervision of Volunteer Services at assigned site(s). Assists the Manager of Volunteers in the planning, implementing and evaluating volunteer activity within the organization and administering the ongoing development of the volunteer program. Responsible for maintaining an active volunteer staff sufficient to provide administrative or direct client care hours that are at least 5% of the total client care hours of paid employees.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Maintains responsibility for the organization, coordination and supervision of volunteer services at assigned site.
• Participates in the recruitment and training of volunteers.
• Interviews and screens volunteers.
• Supervises volunteers to meet programs needs, policies and procedures as well as volunteer interest and skills.
• Participates in and assists in the development of educational training programs for volunteers.
• Evaluates volunteer performance and monitors volunteer activities.
• Fosters volunteer retention by assisting in arranging meetings and social functions for volunteer support and recognition.
• Responsible for all record keeping required according to State/Federal regulations.
• Participates, as needed, in community and area activities promoting hospice care and hospice program.
• Understands the sensitivity of confidential information and ability to handle information properly.
• Participates in hospice team meetings; represents and reports for volunteers, serves as Liaison for volunteers with other members of the hospice team.
• Assists in defining, developing and evaluating the role of the volunteer within the organization.
• Assists in the preparation of an annual cost saving and volunteer utilization report.
• Understands and adheres to organizational privacy practices and compliance programs.
• Assist in providing services that foster the organization’s mission, values, vision and goals.

Qualifications:

• Post high school education.
• Two years experience in Volunteer Management preferred.
• Minimum one-year work or volunteer experience, in health care or social services/hospice preferred.
• Experience with volunteer groups as a volunteer.
• Participation in community programs.
• Ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Effective interpersonal skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Excellent organizational skills to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.
• Understanding of hospice philosophy of care.
• Ability to accommodate multi-faith beliefs and cultural backgrounds of patients/families.
• Must have reliable, insured vehicle and Texas Driver’s License.
• Ability to travel to multi-work locations during workday and evening as needed.
• Knowledge/proficiency in applicable Federal/State laws governing hospice licensure.
