Assistant Controller

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Corporate Accounting Functions and Closing

Month End Close

  • Manage facilitating Month-End-Close process utilizing month-end close software, Floqast, to allow for an accurate and timely closing of the books each month
  • Review and approve Sr. accountants journal entries for accuracy, completeness, coding at SOX 404 compliance standards in the following processes:
    • Fixed Assets additions, disposals and depreciation
    • Non-standard Cash transactions
    • Lease accounting 842 entries and fav/un-fav amortization
    • Debt amortization and Interest expense
    • Intangible additions and amortization
    • Corporate Deferred Revenue – promotions, memberships and packages
    • Franchisee Deferred revenue and Cost of Revenue – ASC 606 contract revenue accounting
    • Note receivable amortization
    • Accrual entries – standard recurring and non-standard
    • Payroll entries including accruals for payroll (Vacation, Corp bonuses, Field bonuses)
    • Allocation entries
    • Monthly credit card chargebacks & bank fees JEs for all corporate clinics
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations for the following processes:
    • Cash, Accounts Receivable, Notes Receivable, Prepaids and other Assets, Fixed Assets, Leases, Intangibles & Goodwill, Accounts Payable, Accruals, Corporate Deferred Revenue, Franchisee ASC606 deferred revenue and deferred cost of sales, Debt, and Payroll accruals
  • Liaise and collaborate with other departments including Sales and Operations on revenue recognition, CapEx projects and lease matters

Operational Accounting – Revenue & A/R

  • Review and approve billing (franchisee related fees and corporate gross sales) for accuracy and coding
  • Review and approve ACH templates used for franchisee related fees and other ACH payments/collections for accuracy
  • Review and approve ACH collections and payments originated by the Joint for franchisee related fees and other ACH payments/collections for accuracy and completeness

Reporting and Analytics

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly revenue analytics for SOX 404 compliance purposes including corporate clinic cash reconciliation, org-wide sales analytic, proof of cash reconciliation, payroll to GL reconciliation
  • Facilitate and review the preparation of the monthly preliminary P&L review meeting workbook including reviewing the P&L and researching month-over-month fluctuations.
  • Prepare and assist with quarterly and year-end external reporting

SOX 404 Compliance

  • Serve as key process owner of certain internal control processes (i.e. FSC, Revenue & AR, Payables, Leases, Fixed Assets, etc.) and assist with ongoing execution of internal controls, enforcing departmental compliance with identified key controls and remediation of identified deficiencies
  • Ensure SOX compliance to all close and reporting processes

Other Items

  • Assist with audits over SOX and Financial Reporting including providing requested documentation and answering audit inquiries
  • Assist with 10-Q and 10-K footnote disclosures
  • Assist in the accounting over company transactions including clinic acquisitions, clinic divestitures debt transactions, etc.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects including but not limited to system implementation projects and projects to enhance the departments efficiencies and accuracy over timely financial reporting.

Supervision and Development

  • Supervise and review the work of direct reports
  • Act as a first-stop resource for direct reports and inter-department staff to assist with questions and issues
  • Develop and mentor direct reports

Preferred Experience / Skill sets

  • CPA required
  • Public Company experience required
  • Big 4 experience preferred
  • SOX 404 background preferred
  • Working knowledge of GAAP financial statements, accounting principles, and GL management – Required
  • Background in month-end close, GL reconciliation and SOX compliance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Software (word, excel, outlook) including advanced knowledge in vlookup and sumif formulas and Pivot tables in Excel)
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with new and existing stakeholders through a high degree of professionalism and excellent interpersonal/communication skills
