Job Summary
Performs duties applicable to a head coaching position in a community college, including but not limited to recruitment of student-athletes, budget management, game and practice organization and administration, academic advisement of student-athletes, and other duties as assigned by Athletics Director. Works with a diverse population of administrations, faculty, staff, students and the public.
Essential Functions
50% - Provides practice and game management for the Basketball Team
25% - Recruits student athletes and provides transfer placement assistance for sophomores
15% - Provides academic advisement and performs other duties assigned by the Athletics Director
10% - Provides office and budget administration
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in physical education, sports management, sports coaching or related field, four years of experience as an athletic coach,
preferably at the college level, which includes recruiting experience and two years of senior level or lead experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as
those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with college level recruiting and/or demonstrated familiarity with Arizona high school basketball athletes and coaches.
- Minimum four years coaching a basketball team that is successful on a win/loss basis (must be included on resume).
- Promotes academic achievement through student-athlete placement into “next level” colleges, universities and/or professional organizations (must be included on resume).
- Demonstrated experience with academic advisement of student athletes.
- Demonstrated experience with media relations or sports information job responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience with NJCAA or NCAA or NAIA eligibility and rule compliance.
- Experience with development of college level basketball programs.
Special Working Conditions
- Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/rmi/vehicle.htm#requirements
- Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate’s own expense
- Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
- May require numerous evenings or weekends
- May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen

Positions in this class typically require: balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical
currents, vibration, etc.); moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as
chemicals, blood or other body fluids); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or threatening environment); and moderate exposure to
extreme temperatures, intense noise or travel.
