The Solid Waste Management (SWM) Division provides trash collection service, hazardous waste removal, recycling, and a composting program for single family Denver homes and multi-family dwellings with up to seven units, municipal facilities, and Denver Public Schools. SWM’s Graffiti Removal Program removes graffiti from private and commercial property and the public Right-of-Way. The Keep Denver Beautiful campaign is housed in SWM.
The SWM team has an opening for an Education Program Assistant. This position will be responsible for assisting in education and outreach efforts for all SWM programs, services, and waste diversion efforts.
Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Prepare and present informational/educational materials for the purposes of public outreach, promotion of organizational goals and objectives, and enhancing the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the target audience
  • Promotes customer understanding and knowledge of a wide range of services and programs available to them through SWM
  • Assists higher level staff and management in identifying community needs, tastes, trends, and available resources and remains up-to-date on current information in the marketplace
  • Assists in training staff and volunteers on work and/or agency/department procedures, rules, and regulations; and oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization in the absence of management
  • Thinking through and implementing training and orientation programs for in-service staff and volunteers.
  • Researches, develops, coordinates, and implements educational and instructional programs, materials/resources in order to promote the different services and establish awareness through public outreach
  • Evaluates, tracks, and reports on program outcomes, which includes reviewing and analyzing related program procedures, may identify desirable modifications for participants and make recommendations for change

  • Experience with a municipalities and Solid Waste
  • Experience with community outreach and volunteering
  • Experience developing education and marketing materials
  • Experience with data collection/analysis and utilizing data to make informed decisions
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Strong understanding of diversity and inclusion principles
  • Bilingual Preferred (English and Spanish)
