Title: Manager of Residential Services
Unit: Academy/Freedom House
Reports to: Senior Director of Housing
Status: Full Time; Regular; Exempt
Location: Harlem, New York
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Housing, the Manager of Residential Services will be responsible for directing staff; for ensuring the safety and proper care to our residents, as well as the delivery of effective case management services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of Case Managers and Group Facilitators for the Academy and Castle Gardens;
- Provide regular individual supervision for Case Management staff;
- Review client charts (paper as well as electronic) to ensure quality and detailed documentation of all housing related services rendered as required by the agency and funding sources;
- Develop extensive base of referral agencies that provide the following services: mental health, health, dental care, substance abuse treatment, education, employment, family services, alternatives to incarceration, housing and gay/lesbian/transgender counseling etc.;
- Assist Senior Director of Housing with the planning and implementation of appropriate programming to enhance services for clients;
- Support the Senior Director of Housing with hiring, orientation and training of new staff;
- Assess housing staff training needs and provide and/or arrange for training needed to ensure professional standards in service delivery;
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with representatives of outside agencies that provide clients with needed services;
- Attend and participate in meetings, conferences, and trainings;
- Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences;
- Assist with the coordination of team/program meetings;
- Attend required internal and external meetings; and
- Perform other duties as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages seven (7) Case Managers and one Group Facilitator for the Academy and Castle Gardens. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and engaging employees; addressing employee relations and resolving problems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field or other life/professional experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree;
- CASAC preferred;
- A minimum of five years’ experience in supervisory capacity;
- A minimum of five years experience working in a congregate housing setting;
- Significant experience working with distressed families and individuals;
- Strong clinical skills;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to be a team player and work independently;
- Strong computer skills; and
- Knowledge of case management resources for formerly incarcerated and homeless individuals and families.
Travel Requirements: May require travel to our Long Island City location and various funder locations for training.
