Summary of Job Duties:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop GC-MS/MS and LC-MS semi-quantitative methodology to measure the volatile and nonvolatile composition of raw material and corresponding value-added products.
- Participate in the design and execution of applied research in flavor chemistry.
- Review scientific and applied literature to identify appropriate materials, statistical techniques, or methods applicable to the area of research.
- Train undergraduate and graduate students on analytical methods and instrumentation.
- Develop scholarly activity at scientific conferences and publications in peer-reviewed journals (with the goal to publish at least two publications in a calendar year).
- Maintain a well-organized and tidy laboratory, with accurate and easy to follow record-keeping, and ensuring proper functioning and required maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Highly motivated candidates need to have a Ph.D. in food science or closely related field with a concentration in analytical chemistry, food analysis, forensic analysis or a relevant field and experience in analytical food chemistry laboratory.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience in food analytical chemistry as shown by multiple publications as well as references attesting to the candidate’s ability to be self-sufficient on instrumentation (i.e. can set up methodology from scratch and can troubleshoot/ maintain equipment in a functioning order).
- A strong and proven record of scientific accomplishment by peer-reviewed publications is a must for this position and it is expected that this individual will help to produce one-two publications in the calendar year.
- The selected applicant must be familiar with establishing methods using the software packages built by Shimadzu Scientific and Waters. It is also necessary for the candidate to be familiar with different strategies to extract and concentrate desired food components (ex. ASE, SPME, SPE, etc.).
- Working knowledge of MS Office and Excel is another must as well as relevant statistical software packages (e.g. R, SAS, XLSTAT, or JMP).
- Skill in applying statistical principles to quantitative and qualitative data is required. Experience in grant-writing is desirable.
- Effective human relations skills are required to work with a variety of stakeholders and professional groups.
- Experience with diversity and ability to work well in a multi-cultural team setting. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form with a variety of audiences is required.
